How to paint with exterior wood paint
Once you have scraped clean a previously painted surface, it also needs to be cleaned with an exterior wash and rinsed off with water. Then allow the exterior to dry thoroughly. If the wood has not been painted previously, you will need to oil the ends with primer oil, followed by priming with an outdoor primer before you start painting with the exterior paint. Outdoor primer fills the irregularities of the wooden texture, protects against moisture penetration, and provides good adhesion for the exterior paint.
When it is time to start painting, this is easiest done with a dense brush. Be sure to work the paint properly into the wood. Apply thin coats – it is better to apply several thin coats than a few thick ones. For nest results, allow the surface to dry for a few days before applying the next thin coat. Avoid painting in direct sunlight on hot days.
