Metal Roofing Paint
With Biltema’s metal roofing paint, you can paint metal roofs, downpipes, gutters, and other sheet metal and metal fittings. Metal roofing paint helps the metal surface stay fresh for longer and it reduces the risk of rust. Thanks to the paint’s high alkaline resistance, it can also be applied to ageing galvanised sheet metal.
A major advantage of Biltema’s metal roofing paint is its good adhesion to most types of materials, as well as its short drying time. Metal roofing paint is rainproof after just 4 hours.
How to paint with metal roofing paint
The easiest way to apply metal roofing paint is by using a paintbrush or spray gun.
Apply at least two coats (three coats on sensitive and exposed areas). You should not paint when the humidity is too high or on wet surfaces. Also, do not paint in direct sunlight.
Old, previously painted surfaces
Use a scraper and steel brush to completely remove all old and loose paint. Wash with a suitable and effective fat-soluble cleaning agent.
If there is rust damage to the roof, use a rustproofing primer.
Old or previously painted galvanised sheet metal
Wash with a suitable and effective fat-soluble cleaning agent.
New galvanised sheet metal
Clean thoroughly and prime using a 10% phosphoric acid solution or with hot water (80-90 °C).
Factory-painted metal surfaces
Remove old paint with a scraper and steel brush and wash as described above.
Sealant and roofing compound
If you have a sheet metal, roofing felt, or concrete roof and need to repair or seal minor damage, joint slipping or cracks, you can use Biltema’s sealant and roofing compound. Our sealant and roofing compound consists of fibre-reinforced and rubber-reinforced asphalt compound and asphalt filler.
Roofing compound
The roofing compound creates an elastic and impenetrable coating that withstands all climates and weather conditions. The roofing compound is supplied ready-for-use.
Application on flat roofs without run-off
- Apply the roofing compound.
- Apply the fibreglass reinforcement.
- Apply another coat of roofing compound.
Sealant
Our fibre-reinforced and rubber-reinforced sealant is perfect for repairing and sealing of minor damage, joint slipping and cracks in roofing felt, sheet metal, concrete, and wood.
Advantages of sealant:
- Creates an elastic and tight joint.
- Adheres to both dry and damp surfaces.
- Withstands all climates.
- Excellent for emergency repairs in rainy weather.
- Does not need to be heated before application.
How to use the sealant:
- Use a trowel to apply the sealant directly on the surface to be repaired. If necessary, dilute with a small amount of turpentine.
- Allow it to dry for one week.
